Business Visa Instructions

Areas of Jurisdiction: Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin.

INSTRUCTION FOR CHINA BUSINESS VISA – FOR U.S. PASSPORT HOLDERS

Please send the following documents:

  1. PASSPORT: A valid and signed passport. Your passport must have at least six months valid from the date of intended arrival in China and having at least two blank pages left); Amendment pages 22, 23, and 24 are not visa pages.
  2. CHINESE APPLICATION FORM: Download 1 (one) Chinese visa application form, fully complete (NOTE: THE APPLICATION FORM MUST BE TYPED IN CAPITAL LETTERS), sign and include contact information and hotel name and address. Every question must be answered (please answer NONE if the question does not apply to you). Improperly completed Chinese visa application forms may delay the processing of your Chinese visa.   3. COPY OF PASSPORT INFORMATION PAGE: The China Consulate recently started requiring a COPY of the information page of your passport to be included with your documentation.

  4. Please note: Currently French and Turkish Passport holders must appear in person to obtain a Chinese visa. Processing time by the Consulate is 5 business days.

  6. PHOTOGRAPHS: 1 (one) recent photograph, 2 inches x 2 inches, passport type.
    China Consulates are very strict with their Photo Requirements:
    1. Photo must have been taken in the last 6 months
    2. be 2 inches by 2 inches in size
    3. Must have white background
    4. Must be facing forward in your photo
    5. No glasses
    6. No jewelry
    7. No white shirts
    8. Mouth must be closed
    Option 2: Obtain 1 passport photo from a passport photo service (Walgreens, CVS, FedEx, etc.).
  7. BUSINESS LETTER: Submit a business letter from the applicant’s U.S. company address and on the company's letterhead to Consulate of China. The letter must be signed by a manager. A faxed copy is acceptable. The letter must state the following information:
    • The purpose of the trip;
    • Type of visa;
    • Number of visa entries being applied for;
    • Duration of your stay;
    • Your job position and title; and
    • Your company's more and financial responsibilities for you.
  8. INVITATION LETTER FROM CHINA: Submit the following:
    • An Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit or a Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by an authorized Chinese agency; or
    • An invitation Letter issued by the Chinese local governments, companies, corporations and institutions other than above-mentioned Chinese agency.
    • Invitation from the contact company in China (on the letterhead: name and address of the company in China). (Note: The invitation must include the following items: (A) Personal information of the invitee: name, gender, date of birth, nationality and Passport number; (B) Information concerning the applicant's visit to China: purpose of the visit, date of arrival and departure, address of the hotel, places to be visited, relationship between the applicant and the inviter, and who will bear the cost of the applicant's accommodations in China; and (C) Information of the inviter: name of the unit, phone number, address, seal and signature of the legal representative.
    • Generally, the invitation letter may be submitted as a fax, copy or printout. If necessary, the consular officer will ask the applicant to submit the original invitation letter, or to provide some supporting and supplementary documents, or schedule an interview.

  9. CONSULAR VISA FEE: Please make out a payment to Consulate of China. (Money Order or Cash); personal and business/company checks are not accepted.
  10. SERVICE FEE: See table below. Cash, Money Order or Certified Check; no personal checks are accepted. Send payment and make payable to: Chinese Visa Services - 3950 N. Lake Shore Dr., Suite #1820D - Chicago, IL 60613.
  11. RETURN SHIPPING: You are required to cover the cost of returning your Passport with Visa. Please include postage payment or provide a self-addressed paid envelope for the delivery service desired (FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc). Returning your package via the U.S. Postal Service is only acceptable with a tracking number.
  12. FOR NON-U.S. CITIZENS: Please include a copy of your U.S. Visa.
    Proof of U.S. Immigration Status You must provide proof of your current U.S. Immigration status. You must include a notarized copy of your U.S. Green Card or U.S. Immigration paperwork.
    • ACTUAL GREEN CARD OR PERMANENT RESIDENT CARD
    • U.S. Visa - Visa that is in current Passport. If visa is in old passport, the China Consulate now requires the ACTUAL expired passport with visa inside.
  13. Applicants who were born in China are required to submit their Chinese passport or last foreign passport with a Chinese visa.
  14. US citizens transiting China do not require a Chinese visa as long as they remain in the airport for less than 24 hours. Persons who plan to re-enter China from Hong Kong or Macao must obtain visas allowing multiple entries.

  15. For a work visa, follow the instructions for the Business visa as well as the following:
  16. VISA NOTIFICATION: Submit a Visa Notification from an authorized Chinese unit.
  17. WORK PERMIT:
    Submit one of the following:
    • The original and a photocopy of the Foreign Expert's Working Permit issued by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, the People's Republic of China.
    • The original and a photocopy of the Alien Employment License of the People's Republic of China issued by Ministry of Human Resources and the Social Security.
    • The original and a photocopy of the Letter of Invitation for Foreigners Engaged in Offshore Petroleum Operations in the People's Republic of China.
    • The original and a photocopy of the Registration Certificate of Foreign Enterprises Permanent Office in China issued by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce of the People's Republic of China, or the original and a photocopy of the Certificate of Approval of Foreign Enterprises Permanent Office in China issued by the Ministry of Commerce of People's Republic of China.
    • The original and a photocopy of the Confirmation of Worker Appointed by the Government of the Sending State issued by the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China.

  18. BUSINESS INVITATION:
    Submit one of the following:
    • An Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit or a Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by an authorized Chinese agency; or
    • An invitation Letter issued by the Chinese local governments, companies, corporations and institutions other than above-mentioned Chinese agency.
    The invitation letter shall include the following items: (A) Personal information of the invitee: name, gender, date of birth, etc. (B) Information concerning the invitee's visit to China: purpose of the visit, date of arrival and leaving, places to visit, relationship between the applicant and the inviter, and who will bear the cost of the applicant's accommodations in China. (C) Information of the inviter: name of the unit, phone number, address, seal and signature of the legal representative.

  19. OBSERVATION: Traveling to Hong Kong or Macau is considered leaving China. Therefore, you must obtain a multiple-entry visa if you want to leave mainland China and visit Hong Kong or Macau and reenter mainland China before departing China.
